Board of Works OKs special events, contracts

The Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety met Wednesday and approved the use of Pike Place on Sunday for the Praise at Pike event hosted by Christ Church 180. The event, which features praise and worship music, is slated for 5-8 p.m. Pike Street will be closed from 1-9 p.m. that day.

The board also approved a request from First United Pentecostal Church to close Walnut Street in front of 116 S. Walnut St. and a portion of a nearby alley from 5-8 p.m. Sept. 11 for the 21st annual 9/11 Memorial Service. The service is set to being at 6:30 p.m.

A request from Wabash College to close Milligan Street from Crawford Street to Union Street for the next five to seven days was approved by the board. The closure was to begin immediately.

Julie Slavens was given approval to close the sidewalk at 602 S. Green St. today for approximately one hour for a pool installation. The closure was contingent on whether road paving crews would be working in that area.

The board approved an agreement with Larry Tippin for financial and accounting consultation services. Tippin will update the records of capital assets owned by the city. His hourly rate is $75 and the contract is not to exceed $11,250.

The board also approved a contract with Plant Brothers in the amount of $245,940 for sanitary sewer work near Buffalo Wild Wings as part of the Purple Heart Parkway extension project on the city’s south side.

The board approved multiple work order requests from Barry Lewis, code enforcement officer, to have city crews mow at: 307 Meadow Ave., owned by Shaun and Melissa Hooker;

1008 E. Elmore St., owned by David Keen c/o Lyle and Christian Barnes; and 1024 E. Chestnut St., owned by Janis Hart.
