As a part of their Leader in Me program, Turkey Run Elementary students received Habit Hero Awards. Habit Hero awards are given to students who set an example by being a good leader and demonstrate one of the seven habits. Awards are presented by staff members to students who they believe have excelled in one of the habits. TRES Presents April Habit Heroes
Parke Heritage Middle School seventh grade student Malik Vance was named the state winner in the junior division of the Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest. Students wrote their essay based on this Martin Luther King quote: “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” The contest was sponsored by the Indiana Association of School Principals. For being the first place winner, he will be awarded $500. The seventh grade language arts teacher is Amanda Games.

Senator Spencer Deery spoke to Parke Heritage Middle School students on April 23. During his visit, he encouraged students to be the best version of themselves and to accept every opportunity to serve and help others. Both of these areas have been a focus for PHMS during this school year. He discussed various areas of his role as a State Senator as well as answering students’ questions which varied from taxes, running for Senator, making decisions about bills, and education issues. Eighth grade members of the student council and staff members with Sen.
