Parke Heritage Middle School seventh grade student Malik Vance was named the state winner in the junior division of the Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest. Students wrote their essay based on this Martin Luther King quote: “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” The contest was sponsored by the Indiana Association of School Principals. For being the first place winner, he will be awarded $500. The seventh grade language arts teacher is Amanda Games.
