Senator Spencer Deery spoke to Parke Heritage Middle School students on April 23. During his visit, he encouraged students to be the best version of themselves and to accept every opportunity to serve and help others. Both of these areas have been a focus for PHMS during this school year. He discussed various areas of his role as a State Senator as well as answering students’ questions which varied from taxes, running for Senator, making decisions about bills, and education issues. Eighth grade members of the student council and staff members with Sen. The Turkey Run Elementary School Math Bowl Team competed in the district contest held April 9 held at Central Elementary. The competition focused on algebra and covered standards in grades 6-8. Students are expected to have standards in grades K-5 mastered. Questions generally consisted of 6-8 standards. There are four rounds with eight questions in each round. TRES Math Bowl Competes

Photo Provided Parke Heritage Middle School recently experienced a transformation, thanks to the Indiana State Teachers Association and Aspiring Educators through their annual community partnership event, Outreach to Teach. Held on April 13, this event saw PHMS receiving a comprehensive makeover, which included painting the dugouts, making two murals in the hallways, revamping the teacher’s lounge, adding an outdoor court area, painting a crosswalk that students use to the local gas station, updating signs and more. Only one school in the state is selected for this project each year. PHMS math teacher Ashley McAmis nominated the school for this event and worked tirelessly to prepare for the beautification process. The success of the Outreach to Teach event at PHMS was made possible by the remarkable turnout and dedication of over 188 volunteers, including ISTA and AE members, local representatives, as well as, students and staff from PHMS. The transformation of PHMS is a shining example of what can be achieved when educators, students, and the community come together to help enhance the learning environment for students. Pictured are most of the Outreach to Teach volunteers gathered in the PHMS gym for instructions before dispersing to their separate work areas.
