North to use dean of students model at high school

LINDEN — North Montgomery School Corporation Superintendent Dr. Colleen Moran announced the high school is changing its administrator roles at the high school.

The school will no longer have an assistant principal, but rather the duties and responsibilities will shared by two Deans of Students.

With the departure of Adam Welcher as high school assistant principal, North officials decided to look into converting the position into a Dean of Students model.

“The decision to move to Dean of Students was made after many hours of studying the new position, phone calls and discussions,” Moran said. “We feel it is best to divide the duties of assistant principal between two Deans of Students and we are excited to move this direction.”

On Monday, school board members approved the appointments of Josh Thompson, a teacher with 24 years of experience, and Emily Youngdale, an elementary teacher with 10 years of service, to the new roles.

Both will handle student discipline, teacher evaluations, student supervision and instructional coaching.

Thompson and Youngdale will begin their new positions July 1.
