Local fan recaps NHRA races

Posted

The nationals have always been like Christmas for me. My dad started taking me when I was four-years old. I have only missed one race in 57 years. I started taking my son when he was four-years-old and he has never missed a race.

I have seen a lot in 56 races at Raceway Park and have enjoyed them all. This race was no exception with great weather, one off paint schemes, fast cars, and time spent with my son and old friends.

Monday’s finals ended with the almost unbeatable Gaige Herrera winning the Pro Stock Bike class. He is on his way to a second championship unless someone else gets in the way. Aaron Stanfield won in the Pro Stock. Stanfield also won the Factory X class, the first time anyone has ever won two classes at Indy.

The fuel classes were fun to watch as they were filled with fast times, tire smokers and blow ups. The red hot Austin Prock won his first National Wally over defending Champ Ron Capps in the Funny Car class. Crowd favorite Clay Millican won Top Fuel for his first Indy win. All four Pro winners were first time Indy winners.

Well it’s only 365 days until I get to do this with Josh again next year, and I can’t wait.
