Eutsler completes board training

Posted

Therese Eutsler, PT, CCT, CMDPT/DN, LHD, of Linden, recently completed US Selective Service System Local Board Member Continuation Training.  In the event of a draft, Selective Service would activate its boards to decide which registrants receive deferments, postponements, and/or exemptions based on established criteria; and who is fit to be evaluated for military service.

Training topics included the Department of Justice defending Board members who are sued for official acts on the Board, Conscientious Objector Classification, Impact of a Conscientious Objector’s Beliefs Relative to Religious or Theocratic Wars, Public Appearance Hearings Modules, and current agency initiatives.

In March, a Memorandum of Understanding between SSS and AmeriCorps was signed at the White House that codifies their partnership on public awareness strategies and marketing initiatives to promote Americans’ participation in national service opportunities offered by both federal agencies.

On June 14, the US House of Representatives passed its version of the National Defense Authorization Act. In addition to authorizing $895 billion in military spending, the act included language from the Armed Services Committee, which would mandate the automatic registration in the SSS of all males between ages 18 and 26 living in America.

President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., appointed Eutsler to a 20-year term on the SSS Local Board for the State of Indiana in 2022. Governor Eric Holcomb recommended her to the President for the appointment. As a volunteer, Eutsler received the Selective Service System’s Honored Patriot Award from former National Director Gil Coronado in 2001.  She has attended agency training events at Camp Atterbury, Fort Knox, Grissom Air Reserve Base, the National Data Center at Naval Station Great Lakes, and SSS National Headquarters in Rosslyn, Virginia.  She is a 2015 graduate of the FBI Citizens’ Academy.

Eutsler is a member of the Montgomery County Wellness Coalition, Byron Cox American Legion Post 72 Auxiliary, Brian Bowman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1431 Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Indiana Sons of the American Revolution, and the newly established Crawfordsville-based Nostalgic Productions, a group that takes live plays out to the people.
