Chargers fall to Knights

Posted

North Montgomery boys’ soccer team could not keep up with Lafayette Central Catholic on the pitch losing 9-0 Thursday. The Chargers played the Knights close for the majority of the first half but could not maintain the effort they needed against an experienced foe.

Central Catholic got on the board with a goal by senior Thomas Henry at the 37:10 mark. The speedster scored again at the 16:40 mark.

Although down 2-0, North Montgomery appeared in the game until a bad break.

The Chargers were called for a penalty giving Thomas a penalty kick. His ball found the back of the net with 1:29 remaining in the half giving the forward a hat trick in the first half.

“I thought we came out aggressive and played hard,” Charger Coach Tristain Hall said. “That goal before the half hurt. With our young team we just did not respond well.”

The second half was all Knights.

Henry, who played the entire game, scored again at 11:52 putting Central Catholic up 7-0.

Another Central Catholic penalty goal by Eric Munoz made the score 9-0 that ended the game under the mercy rule with :38 remaining.

Coach Hall saw some positive things in the game. His team has only two seniors, and he is getting good leadership out of his junior class. He also believes the sophomores and freshmen are only going to improve.

“I believe our young guys are improving and this team is going to be different by the end of the season,” Hall said. “We will just keep working.”

Central Catholic out-shot the Chargers 14-6. North Montgomery keeper junior Andrew Hunsberger recorded six saves.

The Chargers play Tuesday at North Putnam.
