CDPL offers resume writing classes

Posted

This July, the Crawfordsville District Public Library is kicking off its new Job Search Skills Series with two resume writing classes: Resume Writing 101 and Resume Writing Workshop. Both classes will start at 10 a.m. in Classroom D on the library’s lower level.

Resume Writing 101 will be held July 17, and will include a presentation with handouts and plenty of time for questions and answers. Never written a resume before? Need to update your old resume? This class is for you. Wondering which resume format to use? Unsure what information to include in your resume? Get answers to these questions and many more in this informative presentation. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to have their resume critiqued. Registration is not required for this class.

The Resume Writing Workshop will be held July 24, as a more hands-on experience. Basic computer skills are required, but you will be able to get help building your resume from scratch or by using a template. Thanks to a grant from the Montgomery County Community Foundation, the library can now provide laptops for classes like this workshop. Registration is required as laptops are limited. Please sign up at  https://www.cdpl.lib.in.us/events-calendar/ or call the Adult Services Reference Desk at 765-362-2242, ext. 117.

Lisa Comingore, an assistant librarian in the adult services department on the second floor will be the instructor for this new series. Before working at the library, she was a human resources professional and recruiter. She has also taught resume writing and interview skills to hundreds of job seekers and is excited to use this experience to assist library patrons.

If you are unable to attend the classes, the library has some great resources for you to check out. “Resumes for Dummies 8th Edition,” (650.142 DeC) and “Modernize Your Resume, 3rd Edition,” (650.14 Ene) are both available on the 2nd floor of the library. Additionally, www.themuse.com is a fantastic resource for job seekers and hiring managers.

We look forward to assisting you either in class or on the second floor soon. Library hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

Lisa Comingore is a library assistant in the Adult Services Department at the Crawfordsville District Public Library.
