10 girls to compete for Montgomery County titles

Seven girls will compete Saturday for the title of Montgomery County 4-H Queen, while three others will compete for the princess title.

The program will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday at the 4-H Building, 400 Parke Ave. Admission is $3 per person. Cash only. Children younger than age 5 are admitted free.

Candidates competing for queen are:

• Abby Sayler, daughter of Tim and Jenny Sayler. She graduated from Southmont High School and will be a freshman this fall at Ball State University.

She is a 10-year 4-Her and is a member of the South Union Shooting Stars. Her projects include sheep and photography.

She has been involved in dance, show choir, Woodland Heights Youth Student Leaders, Distinguished Young Women, theater, Spanish Club and Spanish Honor Society, Royal Ambassadors and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Her awards and recognition include: head dance captain of Sudden Impulse Show Choir; Distinguished Young Woman of Southmont High School; Hispanic Recognition Award; Small and Rural Town Recognition Award; honor roll; Best Performer Award (show choir); and Beverly Turner Servant Leader Award.

• Clair Simpson, daughter of Darren and Kem Simpson. She will be a senior at Southmont High School this fall.

She has been in 4-H for nine years and is a member of Brown Lucky Leaf. Her
projects include cake decorating, sewing, consumer clothing and beef.

She has been involved in FFA, tennis, show choir and theatre. She also received the FFA Outstanding Service Award.

• Miranda Crowe, daughter of Daniel and Shelly Crowe. She graduated from North Montgomery High School and will be a freshman at Yale University this fall.

She is a 10-year 4-Her and is a member of Anti-Cants. Her projects include woodworking, photography, Jr. Leaders, foods and crafts.

She is involved in theatre (NMHS Theatre Troupe and Vanity Theatre), Montgomery County Junior Leaders (president), and Key Club (president 2022-24).

Her awards and recognitions include: Indiana Regional Academic All-Star (2024); graduated Summa Cum Laude; and 2022 Miss Montgomery County Princess, Miss Congeniality and recipient of the Elaine Chambers Mental Attitude Award.

• Peri McClaskey, daughter of Eric and Julie McClaskey. She will be a senior at Western Boone High School this fall.

She has been a 4-Her for nine years and is a member of Walnut Willing Hands. Her projects include foods, swine and goats.

She is involved in 4-H; is a student athletic trainer; and works at Wellbrooke.

Her awards and recognitions include: 2024 Strawberry Festival Queen; many leadership awards; and top 10 in her class.

• Jessie Bradley, daughter of Brian and Pam Bradley. She graduated from Southmont High School and will be a freshman this fall at Purdue University.

She is a 10-year 4-Her and is a member of Hustling Hoosiers. Her projects include goats, swine, sheep, sewing, Fashion Revue, foods, crafts and floriculture.

She has been involved in soccer, gymnastics, dance, Volunteers for Mental Health student board member, Family Community and Career Leaders of America (president);, Business Professionals of America, Spanish Club, West Central CTE Student Leadership Team, 4-H, and co-organizer of Food Finders events at Whitesville Christian Church.

Her awards and recognitions include: 2024 Montgomery County Community Foundation Youth Volunteer of the Year; Soccer Mental Attitude (sophomore and senior years); Gymnastics Mental Attitude (senior year); and 2024 Dance by Deborah Dancing with Grace.

• Kylee Reeves, daughter of David and Amy Reeves. She will be a senior this fall at Southmont High School.

She has been a 4-Her for nine years and is a member of Clark Hustling Hoosiers. Her projects include sewing, home environment, Fashion Revue, sheep and Jr. Leaders.

She is involved in FFA, track and cross country.

Her awards and recognitions include high honor roll, FFA Officer of the Year and FFA Star in Agriculture Placement.

• Rachel Rhoads, daughter of Jay Rhoads and Danielle Long. She is a graduate of Southmont High School and will be a freshman at Ivy Tech this fall.

She is a 10-year 4-Her and member of the Clark Hustling Hoosiers. Her projects include baskets, Fashion Revue, foods, sewing, scrapbooking, swine, Jr. Leaders and Montgomery County Jr. Livestock Board.

Her activities include FFA, 4-H and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Her awards and recognitions include: graduated with academic honors; lettered in cross country, swimming, track and football; FFA Serves Award (2023-2024); fourth in the state for FFA swine placement proficiency (2024); FFA State Degree (2024); and second in the state 4-H Consumer Decision-making contest.

Candidates competing for Princess are:

• Sophia Shannon, daughter of Jonathan and Kelly Shannon. She will be a junior this fall at Southmont High School.

She has been a 4-H member for seven years and is a member of the South Union Shooting Stars. Her 4-H projects include baked foods, preserved foods, sheep, goats, cattle, swine, beekeeping, woodworking, Reading for Fun and home environment.

Her awards and recognitions include: being named the Outstanding Seventh Grade FFA member in 2021; Outstanding Eighth Grade FFA member in 2022; Star Greenhand FFA member in 2023; and Star Chapter FFA member in 2024. She has been named the Champion Junior Goat Showman in 2019, Champion Intermediate Goat Showman in 2023; and Reserve Champion Intermediate Sheep Showman in 2023.

She has also received recognition from Indiana FFA for participating in the media room in 2023 and 2024.

• Peyton Page, daughter of Dustin and Jessica Page. She will be a sophomore this fall at North Montgomery High School.

She has been a 4-H member for seven years and is a member of the Barnyard Bunch. Her projects include rabbits, swine, poultry, floriculture and photography.

Her activities include choir, tennis, volleyball and showing livestock.

Her awards and recognitions include: honor roll, National Junior Honor Society and teacher-selected student of the year.

• Caelyn Carpenter, daughter of Doug and Nikki Galloway and Luke Carpenter. She will be a sophomore this fall at North Montgomery High School.

She has been a 4-H member for seven years. Her projects include Fashion Revue, floriculture, foods, sewing and swine.

She is involved in 4-H, varsity girls basketball, varsity girls tennis, junior varsity volleyball, Boiler Jrs Travel Volleyball, National Honor Society, FCA and member of Woodland Heights Christian Church.

Her awards and recognitions include: varsity letter winner for girls basketball and girls tennis; Second Team All­ Conference in basketball; Most Improved in JV volleyball; high honor roll every six weeks; and multiple champions in Fashion Revue, floriculture and foods.
