Farmers Market to open for the season

Posted

Crawfordsville’s Farmers Market at Pike Place will open Saturday for the season. The popular market, which is open 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday through October, will again offer the items residents have come to appreciate.

The market operates under the Crawfordsville Park & Recreation Department umbrella and Director Fawn Johnson is excited to introduce a new market manager — Jennifer Yookyung. However, she is not new to market-goers and exhibitors.

“Jennifer has been working to make our market a great place for people to gather,” Johnson said. “Jennifer has some new vendors for this season and is making sure attendees will enjoy a fun season.”

Yookyung previously operated a booth selling soap, honey and produce at the local market. The new manager said people can expect another great market and gathering place for people.

“I am excited to get the market season started and I look forward to helping our community have a great farmers market,” Yookyung said. “Attendees can expect good food, music, produce, local artisans and the spirit of the farmers market.”

“I think it is every market manager’s goal to have as many happy vendors and visitors as possible,” Yookyung said.

Yookyung said vendors can change from week to week due to their schedules. For instance, on Saturday a greenhouse from Lafayette will be at the Crawfordsville market offering vegetable and flower plants ready for planting. The vendor also hopes to have some fresh leafy vegetables from their greenhouse.

“The produce offerings will obviously increase as the growing season increases,” Johnson said. “We should have potted vegetables and flowers early on. Then, the fresh produce items will increase as the season progresses.”

Visitors can expect musical entertainment each Saturday this season.

Special events are also being planned as in past years. The events will be advertised at the market and will also be posted on the Crawfordsville Farmers Market Facebook page.

The Crawfordsville Farmers Market is being sponsored by Duke Energy this season.
