Wellness Coalition plans to reorganize

Posted

A coalition of community members focused on the health of all is reorganizing.

An organizational meeting of the Montgomery County Wellness Coalition is planned from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 21 at the Montgomery County Youth Service Bureau, 808 W. Pike St.

“After some difficulties with meeting during COVID, and then a great deal of staff turnover we have taken a little hiatus,” said Monica Nagele, Purdue Extension Montgomery County Extension Director, Health and Human Science Educator.

The coalition is an organized body of organizations related to community wellness that assist with identifying community needs, give support to develop, carry out and evaluate programming efforts that contribute to Montgomery County’s social, environmental and community wellness.

Organizers invite past members to re-join and welcome new members.

Those serving on the coalition will be expected to:

• Attend 80% of the MCWC meetings. (There will be a total of six entire coalition meetings per year).

• Actively serve on one subcommittee

• Volunteer to host one meeting. This would allow you the opportunity to highlight your organization for the other members. You could host at your facility if able, supply lunch for the group, and present about your organization.

• Assist with identifying issues and opportunities for programming efforts by assisting with setting priorities and goals. Through needs assessments and program design, implementation and evaluation.

• Communicate and promote MCWC programs to clientele and collaborating organizations.

• Work cooperatively to address major county issues and program needs.

• Recruit new coalition members, recognize and nurture existing members, and provide existing members with opportunities to grow and develop as leaders.

“Our goal is to bring people from the community together who impact the health of all, and work together to provide education and create policy, system and environmental changes to improve the health of our community,” Nagele said.

Leading the new coalition is Diamond Teague, a health educator for the Montgomery County Health Department, and Cristiana Verissimo, the new community wellness Coordinator with Purdue Extension.

Teague and Verissimo will co-chair the Wellness Coalition and are planning an interactive workshop on March 21.

“We are hoping to learn from you what the goals and objectives should be in the areas of mind, body and neighborhood,” Nagele said.
