A traffic pursuit involving a stolen vehicle from Putnam County ended in a crash in Crawfordville on Tuesday.

According to a social media post by the Crawfordsville Police Department, at approximately 9:40 p.m. the Roachdale Town Marshal was in pursuit of a stolen vehicle that was northbound on U.S. 231. Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit when the suspect’s vehicle entered the county.

Officers with the Crawfordsville Police Department set up stop sticks at C.R. 300S and U.S. 231 and at C.R. 300S and Ladoga Road.

The suspect’s vehicle turned eastbound off U.S. 231 and headed north on Ladoga Road. It continued to flee toward C.R. 300S, striking stop sticks. However, the vehicle continued northbound into Crawfordsville, where it entered a residential area near Southside Drive.

Police stated, desperate to escape, the suspect recklessly drove through several residential backyards before entering the Tempur-Sealy parking lot. The vehicle continued to flee around the back side of the building and towards the Town & Country building. The suspect vehicle nearly struck the Town and Country building before making a sudden U-Turn. The suspect vehicle accelerated and struck a city officer’s patrol vehicle head on.

A felony stop was conducted, and the male suspect was taken into custody.
