Storm outages centered on Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE - Utility companies are reporting that at least 10,000 homes and businesses are without electricity following the coating of ice Indiana's midsection received overnight.

More than 9,000 of those power outages Tuesday morning were in the Terre Haute and Greencastle areas. Duke Energy spokesman Lew Middleton says those outages were caused when power lines were brought down by ice.

Middleton says Duke is preparing for the additional ice forecast to fall Tuesday across much of central Indiana by bringing in repair crews from the Carolinas.

He said Duke expected to have more than 2,000 repair workers available later Tuesday and that they'll be dispatched around the state as the company receives storm damage reports.
