An eight-ton rock with a plaque honoring the memory of World War II and Vietnam War Veteran Robert Strodtbeck was recently installed at Veterans Memorial Park by VMP Advisor Roy Hurt of Craw-Con Inc. and Gail Blackwell of B&L Engineering, who have contributed $10,000 to date through in-kind contributions to the park. It had been on display at a private residence in Greencastle. It was donated by Valerie Abernathy, Geraldine Payne and Linda Larkin, friends of Strodtbeck’s daughter Helen. Pictured are VMP board secretary Bill Durbin, VMP board member John Douglas, donors Valerie Abernathy and Geraldine Pain, VMP board president Kevin Cobb, donor Linda Larkin, equipment operator Gail Blackwell, VMP board advisor Mark Eutsler, VMP board vice president Mike Spencer and VMP advisor Roy Hurt. VMP is organized as a not-for-profit corporation and is recognized as tax-exempt by the IRS under Section 501(c)(3). Its mission is “Honoring All Veterans.” Various parts of the park and its operation are available for sponsorship and underwriting, including purchasing bricks that will surround the center monument. Engraved bricks will recognize veterans and those who support veterans. More information is available on the park’s Facebook page — Veterans Memorial Park – Crawfordsville.
