STATEHOUSE — A bill authored by State Sen. Phil Boots (R-Crawfordsville) addressing public employee contribution plans passed the House of Representatives Committee on Employment, Labor and Pensions today with a vote of 13-0.

Senate Bill 148 would provide that the state or a local unit of government can decide whether certain retired members of the Public Employee’s Retirement Fund may begin or resume membership in the Public Employee’s Contribution Plan if they are re-employed with the state.

“This bill is important not only for retiring public employees, but all public employees as they progress in their careers,” Boots said. “It’s important for Indiana to provide retirement plans that individuals can continue to contribute to if they return to employment with the state.”

SB 148 would also urge the assignment of the topic of membership in the Public Employee’s Retirement Plan to the Interim Study Committee on Pensions and Management Oversight.

SB 148 will now be considered by the full House of Representatives.
