Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health - Crawfordsville will have a community education luncheon series for 2016 and 2017.

Upcoming dates and topics for the year include:

• Sept. 1: “Caring for Your Heart: Signs and Symptoms of Heart Disease” — presented by Atul Chugh, MD, FACC, RPVI, a cardiologist with Franciscan Physician Network Indiana Heart Physicians.

Chugh will talk about some of the steps to reduce our chances of having a heart attack or stroke. First up: know your numbers, including resting heart rate, blood pressure and cholesterol, both good (HDL) and bad (LDL). Then learn how diet, exercise and medications can lower your risk of heart disease.

During this program, Chugh will talk about prevention and recognizing the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and stroke. Chugh will also talk about the new services provided by Franciscan Physician Network Indiana Heart Physicians who began seeing patients in Crawfordsville in July.

• Oct. 6: “Supporting Patients and Families Through Cancer Treatments” — presented by Dr. Mary Margaret Rhees, a radiation oncologist who practices at the Marie Canine Cancer Center; Kathleen Nelson, manager of Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health’s Marie Canine Cancer Center; and Rev. Mark Roberts, the Journey of Hope Cancer Care Ministry of Montgomery County.

• Nov. 3: “Approaching the Holidays During Times of Grief” — Dwight Herin, chaplain and bereavement coordinator with St. Elizabeth Hospice.
