MCHD offers free STD screening service

Posted

Sexually transmitted disease rates continue to be widespread within our community. The Montgomery County Health Department has been working with the Indiana State Department of Health for more than a year to provide a free STD screening service due to the high number of reported STD’s.

Up until now our community members have had to go to surrounding counties for free STD testing.

The Montgomery County Health Department is thrilled to provide free screening for STD’s. The service began Monday.

In addition to our service of free screening, free treatment will be provided on site. Anyone can stop in and get free screening for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, both of which are treatable.

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea screening is as easy as a quick swab or urine sample. If one tests positive for Chlamydia or Gonorrhea, the public health nurse will distribute medications at no charge to treat the infection. In addition to free screening and treatment, patients will have access to free condoms, education materials, and referrals as needed.

This free Chlamydia and Gonorrhea screening will be available 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to noon anyone can stop by the health department and get free screening for HIV and Hepatitis C with results within 20 minutes. These services are available by walk-ins, or appointments may be made by calling 765-364-6440.

The Montgomery County Health Department is striving to improve the health in our community and decrease the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. These services are free and confidential so get yourself tested and be positive that you are negative.
