James Lee Heide, 59, of rural Attica and who wintered in Blackstock, South Carolina, and was a New Richmond native, passed away at 7:39 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2024, in Carle Hospital, Urbana, Illinois, following a lengthy illness.

He was born July 31, 1964, at Lafayette, son of the late Robert Lee and Iva Brown Heide.

James attended North Montgomery High School and served seven years with the U.S. Army, 1985-1993 discharged as a SGT. He was employed over 15 years with Clifton & Quigg Fertilizer Services, Linden. He was an operator and mechanic who could fix nearly anything. He was a member of American Legion Post #72 in Crawfordsville and enjoyed fishing and camping.

Surviving are his children, Robert Heide of Avon and Nicole (Gabe) Duff of Crawfordsville; grandchildren, Aurora, Claire and Lyla; siblings, Nellie Robertson of Mulberry, Earl (Janet) Heide of Linden, Ethel (Mark) Geldmeier of Riesel, Texas, Marian (Michael) Heide-Branch of Blackstock, South Carolina; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents; grandparents, Frank and Ethel Hockenberry Heide and Tom and Laura Bartlett Brown; siblings, Carl Reamer, Harry Reamer, Ruth Goodin and Frank Heide; three nephews; one niece; and one great-niece.

Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. We will leave immediately following in procession to New Richmond Cemetery where graveside military honors will be provided by Byron Cox American Legion Post #72 and the US Army at 12:45 p.m.
