INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana health officials on Sunday reported 1,579 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and seven additional deaths from the disease.

The Indiana Department of Health reported there have been 134,981 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic. The death toll is 3,562 with another 227 probable deaths where there was a clinical diagnosis but no positive test on record.

Nearly 1.5 million people have been tested for COVID-19 in Indiana since late February, while about 2.3 million tests have been administered.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. But for others, especially older people and the infirm, it can cause severe symptoms and lead to death.
