Board honors Bowling for outstanding years of service

The Crawfordsville School Board honored Dr. J. Scott Bowling at its regular monthly meeting in August.

Bowling was presented with a plaque for his many years of dedication to the Crawfordsville Community School Corporation. He served the school system as assistant principal, principal, business manager, assistant superintendent and superintendent for more than 20 years. His impact on the Crawfordsville schools is evident daily in the school curriculum, policies and building renovations.

The board wished Bowling success in his new position as executive director for the Indiana Association of School Business Officials. The IASBO is a professional organization supporting the development and advancement of individuals involved in school business affairs. Bowling has been a leader within IASBO for several years, serving as region 4 director, board treasurer and board president.

In other business, the board approved policies for board member participation, permission to advertise the 2024 budget and changes to the school dress code.

The board also approved the contract for Andrew Nicodemus as the corporation’s business manager. Nicodemus gave a capital assets report and stated that eight of 13 large copy machines were in the process of replacement.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Brent Bokhart had various operations to report. Training was underway to utilize the new I-Ready testing that replaces I-Step in the state. Elementary schools are participating in the fresh fruit and veggie program to provide students with a healthy afternoon snack four afternoons a week during class. The new website is close to its launch date. The transportation department was recognized for their hard work in bussing procedures, and the first day of school provided 1,744 children with a ride to school.

Eighteen new teachers attended an orientation prior to the school start date. New hires on this month’s agenda included Stephanie Endicott, Willson aide; Amy Cox, Nicolson Media Center; Kari-Ann VanCleave, Hoover aide; Gabrielle Hochstetler, CMS Media Center; Elizabeth Rooze, Nicholson Interventionist; Gwynn Wills, WCISSC speech pathology assistant; Emma Verhey, WCISSC administrative assistant; Misty Wiles, CHS special education assistant; Bradyn Barker, Hose aide; and Kelsey Conkright, Hose aide.

Moving to new positions with the school system were Leanna Phelps, Hose teacher; Josh Perry, Nicholson Media Center; Jacqueline Voliva, Developmental Preschool teacher; Maranda Patton, Nicholson teacher; Meredith Boaz, Nicholson title coach; Joyce Musselman, Hose Life Skills assistant; Peyton Suiter, CHS math teacher; and Tara Walters, corporation ECA and textbook treasurer.

The board approved resignations for Raeanne Walker, Ashley Fisher, Danielle Newkirk, Bartholomew Cassida, Kylene Simpson, Lexi Odum and Megan Craig.

The next school board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 14. Due to scheduling conflicts, the September and October meetings will be held at the administration building.
