Board awards contracts for two city park projects

An Indianapolis company was awarded work on two city park projects.

On Wednesday, members of the Crawfordsville Board of Public Works & Safety accepted bids from All American Construction & Hauling for the proposed renovation work at Lincoln Park on the city’s east side and for the development of Brickyard Nature Park on the city’s north side.

The company was the low bidder for both projects.

The bid for Lincoln Park was $460,000 and the bid for Brickyard Nature Park was $430,000.

In other business, the board:

• Approved a request from Alan Slight to block Ridgeway Drive at 1104/1108 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 10 for the Northridge neighborhood’s annual cookout.

• Approved the route for the annual Bike & Hike event hosted by Nicholson Elementary. The route for the Sept. 14 event is the same as it has been in previous years. Participants will depart from the Crawfordsville District Public Library parking lot at 5:30 p.m. and proceed to the school at 1010 Lane Ave. An additional police officer will assist with traffic control on West Market Street.

• Approved a request by Price Excavating to use four parking spaces in the 100 block of East Main Street (two on the north side and two on the south side) by the alley mural to do repairs for American Water. Work is expected to take one day and will be completed in the next one to two weeks. The company will notify the city in advance.

• Opened two bids for the US 231/Purple Heart Parkway sewer expansion project. The first, from Crider & Crider of Bloomington was $2,792,846. The second bid was from Plant Brothers Excavating of Rosedale for $2,677,578. The bids were tabled for review.

• Approved multiple work order requests from Barry Lewis, code enforcement officer, for mowing at the following properties: 1511 Southside Drive, owned by Serena Smith; 115 Simpson St., owned by Terry Canton; 300 W. Market St., owned by 3B2G Properties; and 300 ½ W. Market St., owned by Don Rose.
