Blessing set for ASI/Habitat project

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County along with Abilities Services Inc. will celebrate a house blessing ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at 808 Liberty St. (directly behind the Wabash baseball field) in Crawfordsville.

“The project is the dream of ASI to be able to provide a better quality of living for those we serve,” said CEO/executive director Michelle Leonard-Smith. “Apartment living is nice, don’t get me wrong, but living in a home will allow those we serve, opportunities some have never had before. Sunday afternoon barbeques and corn hole tournaments, planting a garden, and learning to care for the home independently are just a few things that are top on that list.”

“Twenty families have been blessed with a Habitat home currently,” said Kym Bushong, project director for Habitat for Humanity in Montgomery County. “We have done three rehabilitations, numerous roofs, ramps and assorted home repairs within our community.”

The vision for this project was to be able to bring affordable, quality housing to people with disabilities. It was a unique building opportunity as this home is fully inline with needed accommodations whether someone is in a wheelchair or fully able to ambulate.

ASI along with Habitat for Humanity would like to encourage the community to come out for the house blessing and the opportunity to tour the latest home.
