5X5K program supports healthy lifestyles

Posted

Are you looking for a challenge? Why not walk or run a 5K? Better yet, why not do five 5Ks? That’s the idea behind the 5X5K program created by Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health – Crawfordsville. The 5X5K is an incentive program to get people moving and support the following local 5k races.

• Saturday, March 26 – Boys and Girls Club’s Run for the Club, 9 a.m. start

• Saturday, June 11 – Strawberry Run, 8 a.m. start

• Saturday, July 16 – 4H Color Run, 9 a.m. start

• Saturday, Sept. 10 – Franciscan 5K, 8 a.m. start

• Thursday, Nov. 24 – Sugar Creek Trail Thanksgiving Day Pie Run, 9 a.m. start

Anyone participating in all of the above races will receive a 5X5K jacket. This jacket cannot be purchased, so the only way to get one is to earn it. Participants may walk or run the 5K events.

If you have been thinking about walking or running a 5K, now is the time. You can get moving and support several great agencies at the same time.  Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health – Crawfordsville has just launched a Couch-to-5K series running from March through November to help promote walking and running as part of a healthy lifestyle. This group is open to all fitness levels and anyone 18 and over. Contact Kelsey Miner in Cardiac Rehab 364-8939 for additional information.

The Boys and Girls Club’s Run for the Club raises money for their after-school program. Contact the club at 362-8912 for more information.

Money raised at the Strawberry Festival Run supports North Montgomery High School and Middle School Track teams, helping to purchase equipment and uniforms. Call 362-5140 for more information.

The 4H Color Run supports the 4H Health Program. Contact the extension office at 364-6363 for more details.

Proceeds for the Sugar Creek Trail Pie Run are used to help maintain the trail. Call the Parks Department at 364-5175 for additional information.

Participants will be automatically eligible by participating in all five of the 5K races listed above. Those who qualify will be contacted by mail about jacket size and how to claim their 5X5K prize.
