Mark Douglas “Doug” Sims of Crawfordsville passed away unexpectedly Saturday afternoon at the age of 66.

Doug was a guy that couldn’t sit still. He liked to work on things and owned rental properties. He worked for Dusty’s Shell station for years, went to Ben-Hur Life, ran another service station under Doug Sims Service, and then went to CAT until he retired in 2016. He was a realtor with ReMax.

He enjoyed racing dirt bikes in his twenties, coaching girl’s youth softball teams and was always willing to help. His nephews said he was a great uncle and was always there when he was needed.

Born Aug. 9, 1957, at Greencastle, he was the son of Elmer Bruce Sims and Maude Minnie Sims. Doug graduated from North Putnam High School in 1975. He married Julia Kahle on Nov. 11, 1978.

Surviving family includes: wife Julia Sims of Crawfordsville; two daughters, Kelly Chandler (Brandon) and Karly Sims (Tyler); brother Mike Sims; five grandchildren, Audrie, Korie, Joshua, Luke and Mason and a bonus grandchild Sophia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Phil; and two sisters, Roxanna and Karen.

Memorial visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 at Burkhart Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 6 p.m.
