A Crawfordsville man was arrested Monday in Boone County after he allegedly stole a Polaris UTV from a farmer’s field.

Clarence Earl McClure, 45, is facing felony charges of theft and auto theft and misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia after he allegedly stole the UTV from the area of C.R. 800N and C.R. 1050W.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 3 p.m. Monday to a report of an auto theft. The utility task vehicle, owned by a local farmer, was parked in a field while the owner was working nearby on a tractor. The owner of the vehicle witnessed a white male dressed in all black entering the Polaris and driving away.

Swift action by local law enforcement agencies led to the recovery of the stolen Polaris, which was found wrecked in a wood line near a creek in the area of C.R. 1200W and State Road 32.

With the help of a K9 unit, law enforcement located a white male matching the suspect’s description walking along State Road 32, south of the crash site. The suspect was identified as McClure and he was taken him into custody and transported to the Boone County Jail.

Officers from Thorntown, Jamestown, Lebanon and Crawfordsville police departments and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office assisted with this incident.
